STEPPE TRAIN

If you visit Ópusztaszer, you can view the Feszty Panorama and the National Historical Memorial Park. We can complement this experience with the sight of a living tableau. On the southern side of the Memorial Park, 70 horses graze on the plain. White yurts stand by the lakeside, at the edge of groves. It is likely that on these same sand dunes, 1,100 years ago (when the conquering tribes were holding their council), a very similar sight would have welcomed visitors.

The horses we see are Hungary’s only stud herd and are the same breed as the horses of the Conquest period. The breed is called Akhal Teke and has been preserved by Turkmen tribes to this day.

Our guests can stay in these yurts, in the environment of this stud herd. At night, through the open yurt roof, they can see the starry sky and hear the sounds of the horses moving, allowing them to rest in harmony with nature and in close proximity to the horses, just as our ancestors did over 1,000 years ago.

WE JUST TALKED ABOUT A LIVE IMAGE. YOU CAN ENTER THIS IMAGE, GET TO KNOW IT, TRY IT OUT, AND IF YOU LIKE IT, YOU CAN EVEN HAVE A STAY

CONTENT

Two single-horse carts hitched one after the other (similar to a train), on which 30-35 passengers can have a seat. Participants, taking an adventurous tour through the steppe, can see the Akhal-Teke horse herd of the Cseppentő Family on their 50-hectare central pasture area in Ópusztaszer.

The Akhal-Teke horse breed that we can see was a companion of our ancestors during our arrival in the Carpathian Basin, so, if you like, we can observe the horses of the Hungarian Conquest. The memorial park’s objects and depictions come to life here and can be experienced up close by the group. We can view the horses up close in their pasture-raised herd conditions, just as they once were when our people lived a nomadic, grazing-based way of life. We will see the working horses, the old mares, and the foals. Our journey starts from the Yurt Camp, consisting of original Kazakh and Mongolian yurts, and we return there as well.

Before and after the program, the spacious area is available for the team to spend their free time, and in our communal lounge, you can sit down to relax or enjoy your refreshments.

“The treasure of the world lies between a horse’s two eyes. After humans, the horse is the most glorious creature, horse breeding is the noblest occupation, racing is the most delightful pastime, and feeding and caring for a horse is the best thing.” /Virginia Cleo Andrews/
