Transylvania – touring in rolling Bihar countryside

People, who are interested in Transylvania, are mainly only familiar with such part of this land as Hargita and Székelyföld (the land of ethnic Hungarian “Székely” population-Eastern Transylvania). Few people know however that there is a wildly romantic countryside only 80 km east of the Hungarian border. It is a mountainous region, the land with the source of the rivers Körös and Szamos, on the eastern slopes of which Kalotaszeg is situated, which is a region that has preserved the most archaic cultural features in the whole of Transylvania and maybe also Hungary.

Another feature of this region is the fact that roving this countryside the travellers find themselves in a journey that seems to take them far away geographically and physically; and also way back to the past, to the world of the beginning of the 20th century. Physical distance from urban areas seems to create a distance also in time…Bells ringing on their necks, herds of cattle and water buffalos make their way home to the villages at dusk, while studs roam freely grazing on the high mountain slopes. There are hardly any regions in Europe, where you do not see any fences during a journey for several days, thus you are saturated with the feeling of spaciousness and freedom…

You will have the opportunity to ride the legendary Achal Teke horse, the breed that the Magyar warriors rode about eleven hundred years ago during the conquest of the land of Hungary today. This is the breed that has played such an important role in the history of Hungary, and which is also famous for its comfort. Not only the horses, but also the saddles are special. We handcrafted them to satisfy the needs of our special horses and also the special requirements of modern horse riding. They are especially safe and comfortable, and have performed to the fullest satisfaction of riders in tours during the past few years.

Unfortunately we can't do this type of tour, because of an infection in Romania...
